Nico Lorenz (born 14/02/2003 in NRW, Germany) is a queer film director currently studying at the Academy of Media Arts in Cologne, Germany with a focus on directing.
Their work varies between experimental, documentary and fictional forms, with a focus on queerness and political themes.
Their film “Countershot” was presented at the Kölner Kongress 2026 by Deutschlandfunk / Deutschlandfunk Kultur and is currently in the film festival circuit.

holding onto a vanishing spot: placeholder is a sensory experience exploring an encircled piece of nature shaped by speed and noise. Through rotating sounds and a 360-degree one take on 16mm film, the documentary draws us into a symbolical habitat being consumed by urban expansion and disturbance. The composition emphasizes the subjective perception of metropolitans, reflecting the constant overstimulation that comes with our surroundings.

Since 2022 the german police uses 106 surveillance cameras located in 7 zones of cologne, germany to surveil its people. I surveilled them back over the course of one month. “Countershot” is a performative film study attempting to symbolically target governmental surveillance in public spaces through individual artistic practice. One super 8 cassette exposed exclusively with single frames; the act of shooting back.
